We recognize that transitions can be difficult for a child with SEND and take steps to ensure that any transition is as smooth as possible.
How we will support children with SEND when they are moving on to another class or leaving this school:
The majority of pupils join Durham Trinity School & Sports College at the beginning of the school year in September. You can read in detail the arrangements for this in the documents below.
For any pupils joining school mid year we will discuss with parents/carers on an individual basis how this will be best achieved.
Pupils moving class/departments within Durham Trinity School & Sports College
This mainly occurs in September. As part of the new pupil transition programme in the summer term existing primary/secondary pupils are involved in the transition programme. This means that all pupils will experience time in their new class with peers and relevant staff before the summer holiday.
Pupils leaving Durham Trinity School & Sports College
The majority of pupils leave us at the end of Year 11 or Year 14. Arrangements are put in place on an individual basis to ensure transition to their next destination is effective. For some pupils this transition programme will continue through the school summer holidays.
For any pupil who transfers to another school at another stage in their education, we will work in partnership with that establishment and parents/carers to determine how the move can be best supported.
